A bismuth-containing product in solid form, which is dissolved at a pH below 5, a process for its production, a pharmaceutical for oral administration for the treatment of gastritis and ulcer, which contains it and a process for the production of the pharmaceutical, are described. The product according to the invention contains a mixture of a bismuth(III) salt which is insoluble in water with a primary or secondary sodium or potassium salt of citric acid and is produced by simply mixing the constituents.
