A process is for the prodn. of non-fraying hems on textile pieces cut out of a continuous web. The hem areas of the textile pieces are stabilised through applying a hot melt substance and letting the substance solidify. Before the textile pieces are cut, a strip of hot melt substance is applied on the latter cut area in at least double the width of the required hem. The strip follows the outline of the cut to be applied later. After the substance has solidified, the cut is effected through the middle of the strip so that a hem is formed on both sides of the cut. ADVANTAGE - The edge consolidation and folding of a web and its sepn. into individual pieces can be effected in one machine and automatically.
