In known appliances for changing money in an amusement arcade, it is necessary that the appliance for accepting banknotes and dispensing coinage be part of a multiple stand for receiving coin-operated entertainment machines. Coin channels lead from the entertainment machines to a safe of the money-changing appliance. Technical faults in the coin-dispensing device of the money-changing appliance or an insufficient stock of change cause the appliance to be put out of operation. With the new appliance, a money-changing operation is always to be guaranteed. For this purpose, the appliance comprises a centrally arranged housing with a banknote-acceptance station and with a central control device, from which, depending on the banknote to be changed and allowing for the coin stock in the dispensing devices, the stand activates the coin-dispensing device from the central control device for the purpose of paying out coins.
