The invention relates to a device for taking groundwater, suspension or soil samples from boreholes, comprising a connecting part (1) for a drill-pipe string at the top end, a core-bit carrier (3) at the bottom end, a casing cylinder (2) screwed to the connecting part and the core-bit carrier, an axially displaceable inner cylinder (4) supported inside the casing cylinder (2) by means of a spring (5) and having at least one cover surface, at least one compressed-air passage (14, 15) to the casing cylinder (2) in the connecting part (1), through which compressed air can be admitted to the inner cylinder (4) for displacing it against the force of the spring (5), and in each case at least one opening in the circumferences of the casing cylinder (2) and the inner cylinder (4), which openings lie at different heights when the spring (5) is relaxed to the furthest possible extent and which lie at least partly congruent to one another when the spring (5) is preloaded. <IMAGE>
