The object of an application device is to apply a metal layer providing long-term corrosion protection to a cleaned and rubbed-down damaged spot on a car chassis. In a housing, an electrolyte solution is stored in an absorbent storage medium (42). An absorbent application element (28) is arranged movably and, when at rest, at a distance from the storage medium (42) in a housing (10) and can be pressed, as a result of pressure against the metallic base, against the storage medium (42), counter to a spring force. Connection means (26) for connection to a car battery are directly connected, via a metallic conductor (56), to the absorbent application element (28). The electrolyte solution can then be applied, the current causing electrodeposition on the damaged spot on the car chassis. <IMAGE>
