Coupling of a local network subscriber comprising at least one emitter and/or receiver part, in particular a motor vehicle, to a data bus with two bus lines, characterized in that the bus lines (B0, B1) are associated with RC switch elements (R5, C1; C2) connected to a resistance network. As a result of the co-operation of the capacitors with the resistors of the resistance network, potentials arise at the input terminals (RXo, RX1) of the receiver part of the subscriber (10), which ensure that the data present on the data bus are identified even in the event of a short circuit of one of the bus lines to earth, to the battery voltage or to the other bus lines, or if one of the lines is disconnected.
