During the driving of underground roadways, wire-mat lagging is normally placed behind the support. The lagging mats in a length corresponding to the distance between support units are in each case connected to one another or under one another in the unprotected space before the setting of the support segments. This work is time-consuming and costly and often results in injuries. To improve the efficiency and in particular to avoid the high risk of injury, the invention provides for lagging mats to be hung in accordance with the loading advance in the area of the side walls on the bar canopy adapted to the advance per round of, for example, four support units and provided with lagging mats of continuous length and held via forepoling rails, the lagging mats in the area of the side walls being forepoled via a forepoling holder which is releasably fastened on both sides of the side walls to at least one roof segment of the bar canopy and is adapted via extension elements to the installation of the lagging mats down to the floor level (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
