PURPOSE:To automatically and accurately polish an inner surface to be machined in a way to bring a polishing material into reliable slide contact with the inner surface to be machine of a workpiece by a method wherein a plurality of polishing materials are positioned in juxtaposition on a surface to be machined, and polishing is effected through simultaneous reciprocating drive of the polishing materials in different directions from each other. CONSTITUTION:A pat member 146a of a first polishing mechanism 62a is lowered, and the press surface of a sand belt 124a is brought into press contact with the uneven surface of a workpiece through the resilient force of a spring by means of a given press force. In a second polishing mechanism 62b also, a sand belt 124b is brought into press contact with the uneven surface through a part member 146b. Feed rollers 34a and 34b are rotated in a given direction and the workpiece is conveyed in the direction of an arrow mark X1. With a rotational drive source 66 driven, the pat members 146a and 146b are simultaneously reciprocatively moved in a direction, in which the pat members are caused to approach and separate away from each other, in a state that the sand belts 124a and 124b are forced into pressure contact therewith. This method applies a polishing work on the uneven surface of the workpiece, conveyed in the direction of the arrow mark X1, through the reciprocatively moving sand belts 124a and 124b. |
