PURPOSE: To efficiently compress data used by the memory of an infrared remote controller by generating a remote control signal in a selected form in response to encoded data stored in a memory means. CONSTITUTION: A set of compressed data consists of a format structure FS and a compressed function table CFT. A controller 400 receives a clock signal from a clock oscillator 410 and addresses a memory 420 in accordance with programmed instructions. The memory 420 includes a general area 422, an area 424 for storage of FS data, and an area 426 for storage of CFT data. In the learning mode, the controller 400 stores 'raw' data in the general memory 422 and extracts data indicating a format structure to store it in the FS memory 424 and compresses data related to a command and stores it in the CFT memory 426 as compressed function data. Thus, the memory efficiency is considerably improved during data compression. |
