PURPOSE: To obtain a cigarette with a low tar level which gives good smoking taste and satisfaction by covering a smoking material comprising tobacco leaf filler, inorg. material, carbonaceous material and binder with a wrapping material having specified air permeability and specifying the air dilution rate and nicotine content. CONSTITUTION: (A) A smoking material is covered with (B) a wrapping material (with 5 to 75 corresta unit air permeability) to obtain a cigarette. The material (A) consists of (1) 40 to 85wt.% first tobacco filler and (2) 16 to 60wt.% second smoking material (comprising 40 to 80wt.% inorg. material such as calcium carbonate, 10 to 50wt.% high carbon content material or carbonaceous material such as pyrolyzedα-cellulose, 5 to 15wt.% binder such as carboxyl methylcellulose). The obtd. cigarette has 25 to 75% air dilution rate, 2% nicotine content, <9 tar nicotine ratio, 50 to 200mmAq pressure decrease in an air flow with 17.5cc/sec sucking resistance.
