PURPOSE:To modify a molding of a fluorine-containing high-molecular compound freely to a desired depth from the surface, by treating the molding with a metal carbonyl compound, and then treating it with a sulfonating agent. CONSTITUTION:A molding of a C-F bond-containing fluorine-containing high- molecular compound (e.g., polytetrafluoroethylene) is modified (improvement in adhesiveness, hydrophilicity, conductivity, etc.) by immersing the molding in a metal carbonyl compound (e.g., iron pentacarbonyl) and then further treated with a sulfonating agent (e.g., sulfuric acid, halosulfonic acid, or sulfur trioxide/pyridine complex) to introduce sulfonyl groups. In this process, it is possible to modify the molding to a desired depth from the surface by controlling the depth to which the sulfonating agent are introduced either by varying the degree of penetration of the metal carbonyl compound or by varying the length of time or temperature of contact with the sulfonating agent. |
