PURPOSE:To obtain the display device which has high resolving power and displays information and is so constituted as to facilitate an increase in the size of the screen by providing an optical modulating means which modulates waveguide light propagated in an optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:The optical modulating means 3 consisting of the optical waveguide 1, an optical substrate 2, a coupler 4 for incidence, a light source 5, and optical modulating elements is provided. Then the luminous flux from the light source 5 is made incident form the projection end part of the optical waveguide 1 by the coupler 4 for incidence and propagated in the optical waveguide 1. Further, the waveguide light is modulated optically by the optical modulating means 3 to control the display information displayed at the projection end part, e.g. the light-shade state of the display information consisting of a light-shade pattern. Consequently, the resolving power is improved and the screen is increased in size. |
