摘要

PURPOSE:To improve the weather resistance of a fluoride glass fiber by decomposing and activating starting material for SiC or MgO having a high vapor pressure in plasma under reduced pressure and by coating the surface of the glass fiber with SiC or MgO at a low temp. CONSTITUTION:A fluoride glass fiber 3 is introduced into plasma under reduced pressure. An org. silane monomer or a mixture of a metal-acetylacetone chelate compd. with oxygen is introduced into the plasma from a starting material inlet 6 and an SiC or MgO film is formed on the surface of the fiber.
