PRODUCTION OF CHALCOGENIDE GLASS FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain chalcogenide glass fiber which is free from the irregularities in the interface of a core and a clad and high in mechanical strength and low in transmission loss by locally and continuously melt-sticking a core rod and a clad tube toward the other end of the clad tube from one end thereof and spinning them at the specified temp. CONSTITUTION:A core rod is inserted into a clad tube and these are locally and continuously heated and melt-stuck toward the other end of the clad tube from one end thereof. In this case, both the core rod and the clad tube are held in the inert gas atmosphere (<=10<-1>Torr pressure of inert gas of the gap, >=0.2kg/cm<2> pressure of gas in the outer circumference of the clad tube). Thereafter the core rod and the clad tube are simultaneously spun while the whole body is held at any higher spot of the distortion spots of the core rod and the clad tube and heated. Thereby the chalcogenide glass fiber excellent in infrared permeability is obtained.
