The offset shears use two articulated blades (12,14) connected by a fulcrum pin through aligned holes (60,64). The blades may act as rocking levers pinned to hand levers in an elbow-joined mechanism. Contact between the blades, other than via the cutting eges during the closure movement is via bearing faces incorporated on bosses (92,94) and offset from the respective blade bodies (62,66). The arrangement allows material to be removed from the blades by grinding, e.g. to reform the cuting edges (70,72), material also being removed from the bosses, the anvil and the chisel to maintain the relationship between the cutting edges. A tooth in the lower blade facilitates the cutting circles.
