The initializing method and apparatus supplement existing method using two sensors and has only a sensor with two combined function of sensing both carriage and daisy wheel. The improved method comprises checking steps (10,20,70,80) for the home sensor of daisy wheel, detecting steps (30,40) for output change by carriage-shifting to left, a carriage moving step (50) to the initial position, a changing step (60) for rotation direction of daisy wheel.
