In vivo recombination process for partially homologous DNA sequences having up to 30% base mismatches. Said sequences are contacted in cells or in an organism whose enzymatic system for repairing mismatches is deficient or has been temporarily inactivated by saturation for a period of time sufficient to achieve recombination between said DNA sequences or any other mutant which increases intergenetic recombination.
