According to the invention, this device essentially comprises a barrel 2 consisting of a crown 3 of cells 4 each of which is intended to accommodate a gas bottle 5, cylinders for support and rotational driving of the barrel 2 linked by a transmission member, moved by a motor and integral with a fixed frame 8 resting on the ground and supporting a covering casing 9, the latter having an access aperture 11 opening out onto an empty receiving cell 4a intended for receiving an empty gas bottle 5 and a door 10, detection and control means able to check the conformity of the empty bottle inserted with predetermined standards and means of control of the motor, slaved to positioning means, to actuation means and detection and control means and to a payment apparatus and able to drive the cylinders and the barrel 2 in rotation, in such a way as to bring a full bottle 5 opposite the access aperture 11. <IMAGE>
