The present invention relates to a suspension device for a motor vehicle. This device includes a sliding damper member 1 interacting with a helical compression spring 2, the respective working axes X, Y, preferably concurrent, of the damper member 1 and of the helical spring 2 being substantially angularly offset with respect to one another, the working axis of the helical spring 2 being directed suitably towards a corresponding wheel 3 of the vehicle, one of the spring seats, secured to a tubular body 5 of the damper member 1 and on which the helical spring 2 rests, including a means 15, 20 for laterally holding and centring the end part 13 of one of the end turns 12 termed lower turn of the aforementioned spring 2, the free end 16 of the end part 13 being directed towards the tubular body 5 of the damper member 1. This suspension applies to a front or rear axle assembly, be it guiding or non-guiding, of a vehicle of any type whatsoever. <IMAGE>
