Paper-making with application of pulp suspension to a sieve wire - with addn. of enzyme to recirculation water passing through wire to cleave deleterious dissolved substances such as hemicellulose

Process for applying a paper pulp dispersion to the wire of a papermaking machine in which the pulp is suspended in the circulation water to form a suspension which is applied to the sieve wire, and the water which filters out of the fibre web and through the wire is returned to the suspending phase, with addn. to the recirculating water of an enzyme to split dissolved or dispersed substances such as hemicellulose from the pulp. USE/ADVANTAGE - Addn. of enzyme to the recirculation water cleaves substances such as hemicellulose present in the water, and which normally accumulate in the recirculating water and have a deleterious effect on the papermaking process, e.g. by reducing retention, interfering with the action of assistants, causing aggregations in the process plant, and appearing as contaminants in the finished paper. The process is esp. effective with mechanical pulps such as TMP and CTMP.
