In a filling appliance (1) for filling casks with a flowable medium, the pump chamber (21) of the filling pump (2) is closed at one end by a closing body (13) of variable position, which, as a rotary slide, forms a valve body of a valve (15, 19) belonging to the pump control and which, like the pump piston (11) can be retracted into a flushing space (29 and 28), in which its sealing faces, like those of the pump cylinder (10), are free and without contact. The filling appliance can consequently be cleaned completely without residue by a flushing stream supplied via the media inlet (3), without any opening or dismantling, and the change-over time between the filling of different media can be reduced substantially. <IMAGE>
