An apparatus for the rapid cooling of metal-containing melts, in particular metal-oxide melts, to form a solid product strip has two rotating solids of revolution, if necessary subjected to forced cooling, which at the start of the cooling process are in contact along a common generatrix and by moving away from one another form a gap for the passage of the melt which has accumulated in front of the gap in the direction of rotation. In this way, a depression for receiving the melt is formed, which is closed up to the geodetically highest points and delimited solely by the surfaces of the solids of revolution.
