Motor vehicle heating by means of petrol using a catalyst

Engine-independent vehicle heating has hitherto usually been carried out by combustion of motor fuel in a flame. The high flame temperatures require complicated apparatus and the use of expensive materials. In addition, environmentally polluting oxides of nitrogen are formed in combustion in a flame. The reaction of motor fuel, in particular lead-free petrol, proceeds over the catalyst used at temperatures as low as 100@C. This gives no environmentally polluting oxides of nitrogen. The vehicle heater using the catalyst consists essentially of the reactor (1), the pipe coil (2) with circulating pump (8), the catalyst (31), the blower (4) and the fuel supply (5). <IMAGE>
