ISOMERIZATION PROCESS FOR PARAFFINS

Isomerisation process comprises contacting a hydrocarbon feedstock contg. (more than C10) n-paraffins and less than 20 wt.% aromatic content, with a large pore zeolite catalyst and hydrogenation cpd. to convert at least part of the n-paraffins to isoparaffins. Zeolite comprises ZSM-20 or zeolite Y of SiO2:Al2O3 ratio more than 10:1, with hydrocarbon absorpion capacity of 6 wt.% or more at 50≦̸C. Deg. of crcking is inhibited, permitting use of palladium or other weaker hydrogenation component.
