The arresting devices of height-adjustable tables leave a lot to be desired with regard to their functional reliability. It is proposed to make use, via an eccentric, of the cylinder housing of a gas spring as adjusting rod for a cone, on which there are arranged radially outwardly movable metal brake blocks which are pressed into the corners of an outer tube of square cross-section.
