Catalysing 1-component liq. and/or paste materials (I), contg. e.g. polysulphides, silicones, polyurethanes and/or acrylics, etc., comprises mixing the premixed, uncatalysed (I) with catalyst and/or crosslinker in a centrifugal mixer (CM). A pref. process for mixing liqs. or pastes contg. shear-sensitive substances and/or shear sensitive mixts., e.g. thixotropic additives and/or hollow spherical fillers and/or encapsulated additive (mixts.) such as catalysts, crosslinkers, pigments, etc., uses a CM. Mixer for the above (CM) has a container for the material which is driven around a fixed axle and which can also be rotated around at least one other axle which is not perpendicular to the first axle, by the centrifugal force of the container itself and/or the material. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful for mixing 1- or multi-component adhesives, coating materials, sealants, etc., and foods, pharmaceuticals, etc. which must be mixed under hygienic conditions, and enables rapid mixing with low material losses. The appts. is easier to clean than other types of mixer; one component of a multi-component mixt. can be catalysed in the final pack and then applied directly.
