PURPOSE:To advantageously improve yield without jamming arising from scattering of zinc and with a small amount of by-produced water by using specific catalyst comprising molten zinc and inorganic compound in obtaining the subject compound as basic raw material in chemical industry by dehydrogenating of methanol in the absence of oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A mixture composed of molten metallic zinc and powder of inert inorganic compound is used as a catalyst and methanol is dehydrogenated at a catalyst layer temperature of 450-650 deg.C, especially 450-550 deg.C under normal pressure - 10kg/cm<2> in the absence of oxygen to afford the aimed compound. Said molten metallic zinc is directly used with powdery metallic zinc sold at a market or after adjusted of average particle diameter as 0.1-10mm. As inorganic compound powder, silica having 0.1-10mm average diameter is preferably used. Mixing ratio is preferably 1:1. The inorganic compound powder is mixed with fine powdery metallic zinc and a catalyst is produced at a reaction temperature above melting point of metallic zinc. |
