Balusters and hand-rails. -A fastening for securing the free end of a hinged section of a hand-rail to the adjacent fixed section comprises socket members 12, 13 secured to the ends of the rail sections and having abutting bevelled ends. A semi-circular recess is cut out of the end of the member 13 on the fixed section 10, the recess being deeper at the back as shown at 19 than at the front 18. A corresponding projection 22 is formed on the member 12 on the hinged section 11 and is connected thereto by a neck 21 corresponding to the portion 18 of the recess in the member 13. A spring-pressed sliding bolt 24 actuated by a handle 30 is housed within the member 12 and enters a hole 26 in the member 13.</p> |
