A belt for use in an extended nip press comprises a base fabric (22) having the form of an endless loop, the inner surface (20) thereof being coated and partially impregnated with a polymeric resin e.g. polyurethane to render it impervious to liquids and the outer surface (19) of the belt having flat monofilament yarns (28) defining channels (32) for water attached thereto.
