<p>PURPOSE:To suppress the influence of reflected distortion of spectrum by applying spectrum analysis with the maximum entropy method deciding a proper degree in the case of coding a linear component, obtaining a solution by the mathematical method, coding the result and applying interpolation connection of line segments in this case. CONSTITUTION:An edge extraction section 7 connects broken line segments by means of a prediction calculation in the case of thinning an edge component of a picture. In this prediction calculation, the prediction calculation is subject to spectrum analysis by using the maximum entropy method(MEM) predicting the entropy of broken part to be maximized or the successive covariance method and the solution of the spectrum is obtained by the mathematical method. A coder 9 receives a line information signal from the edge extraction section 7 and an area information signal from an orthogonal conversion operation section 8, encodes them and multiplex them to obtain a coded signal. Thus, the interpolation connection of line segments based on the prediction theory is applied to the broken component and a continuous contour line is obtained, then a reproduced picture with high quality and excellent in visuality is obtained.</p> |
