Weighbridges.-An automatic travelling-poise weighing-apparatus of the type wherein the load is carried on to the weighing scale by means of an electrically-driven truck is provided with a device whereby the truck on arriving on the weighing scale is made to switch off the truck's driving motor in order that the truck may not run past the scale unweighed, and automatically effect the actuation of an operation-initiating mechanism whereby the weighing process is started, means being provided for restoring the current through the driving motor whereby the truck is restarted and clears the weighing scale for a new weighing operation. The truck in running on to the weighing scale closes the circuit of an electromagnet 21, the armature of which consequently presses a strap 23 against a wheel 15 which is thus caused to lag behind a continuously-rotating shaft 11 to which it is attached by a spring 18. A ball 16 loosely carried by the wheel 15 thereupon wedges between a cam 13 and a stationary cup wheel 14 which is consequently clutched to the shaft. A projection 20 on the cup wheel depresses levers 28, 24 provided with mercury contacts 25 and breaks the circuit of the truck's driving motor thereby bringing the truck to rest on the weighing platform. The projection 20 also rocks a lever 19 which in turn raises a release lever 1. The rise of the release lever starts the travelling poise mechanism, and the weighing operation is completed in known manner whereupon the lever 1 falls and displaces a lever 48 so as to interpose a ball 43 between a stationary abutment 36 and the flange 41 of a sleeve 32. The sleeve 32 is normally caused to reciprocate by the action of a continuously-rotating arm 31 upon a notch 38 in the sleeve. The interposition of the ball 43 however prevents the sliding movement of the sleeve and causes the arm 31, together with its shaft 30, to move to the left into engagement with an arm 46 which is thereby given a rotation and resets the weighing mechanism in known manner. The final movement of the arm 46 withdraws the ball 43 from its interposing position. The shaft 30 when moved to the left into its resetting position brings a cam 53 into engagement with a rocker 52 and by-raising the rocker causes a pin 56 to raise the contact lever 24 and again supply current to the driving-motor of the truck which then runs off the weighing platform, at the same time de-energizing the installation in its initial position.
