PURPOSE:To obtain a polyarylene sulfide having a high MW, a high whiteness, a low residual salt content and excellent washability by using sodium hydrosulfide as a sulfur source in the presence of a lithium halide and using an alkali metal aminocarboxylate as an acid binder. CONSTITUTION:Sodium hydrosulfide, an alkali metal amino-carboxylate, a dihalogenoaromatic compound and a lithium halide are reacted with each other in an organic polar solvent, preferably by dehydrating a mixture comprising an organic polar solvent, a hydrated sodium sulfide and an alkali metal aminocarboxylate and reacting the dehydrated mixture with a lithium halide and a dihalogenoaromatic compound. |
