PURPOSE:To form basic cast monolithic refractories preventing the infiltration of slag and having high purity, high corrosion and thermal spalling resistances by blending refractory aggregate treated with pitch with refractory superfine powder and a binder. CONSTITUTION:Refractory aggregate (e.g. magnesia clinker) whose surface and open pores have been coated with pitch is blended with a required amt. of refractory superfine powder (e.g. superfine powder of alumina or silica) and a binder to form cast monolithic refractories. Refractory aggregate is preferably kneaded with heated pitch under reduced pressure so as to allow pitch to infiltrate into the open pores. |
