PURPOSE:To ensure the input of Japanese words with high efficiency and to improve the operability of said input operation, by always retrieving the words using the character trains so far supplied to the indexes out of a word dictionary with each input of KANA (Japanese syllabary) letters and then displaying a decided candidate word. CONSTITUTION:A Japanese word input device 1 feeds a KANA letter train, etc. of the Japanese word data through a keyboard 9, performs a KANA-Chinese character conversion on the basis of a word dictionary 6 and displays the result of process to a display 20. A retrieving part 14 retrieves thr dictionary 6 every time when the character supplied from a control part 12 is transferred and designates a range of candidate words by means of the head and end candidate pointers 15 and 16 respectively. A deciding part 17 decides the coincidence between the contents of the pointer 15 and those of the pointer 16 and then reads the Chinese character code of the corresponding word out of a Chinese word part 8 and transfer it to the control part 12 when the coincidence is obtained, i.e. the candidate words are limited to just one. |
