PURPOSE: To restrict moisture to a specified value until the paper is used by having mutually parallel planar surfaces that are slidably interengaged upon closure of the carton to restrict air ingress to the carton and reducing the ingression rate of water vapor below a specified value. CONSTITUTION: Ingression rate of water vapor into closed cartons is preferably 30 grams or less, more preferably 10 grams or less, per square meter of the surface area of the carton in 24 hours at relative humidity of 90% and temperature of 30 deg.C. Ingression of water vapor is prevented by jointly using inner and outer plane packings. As the materials of the carton are many semi-stiff substances, for instance, thick paper coated with polyolefin (polyethylene or polypropylene) or metal-foil laminated paper is appropriately used. Micro- corrugated paper is processed with polyethylene adiabatic surface lining, and best fits particularly to produce large cartons for collectively packaging paper reams. By using this, moisture content in paper before use can be kept 6% or less.
