Yarn feed device for textile machines (2), in particular for automatic air jet looms, comprising a device (4) for storing and feeding yarn arranged between a supply device (8) and the insertion device (3) of the textile machine, as well as an auxiliary device (10) arranged on the path of the yarn between the yarn supply device and the device for storing and feeding yarn. The auxiliary device (10) comprises a friction drive (R) for the yarn (Y). In a process for driving a yarn, the circumferential speed (KR) of a friction drive (10) which constitutes the auxiliary device is set at a higher or lower value than the yarn speed (KY) in the device (4) for storing and feeding yarn, and the yarn (Y) is fed or braked on the circumference of the friction drive with a slip which is maintained during the feed. |
