PURPOSE:To improve the utilization efficiency of a laser beam by changing the width of the laser beam in the direction roughly at a right angle to the joining surface of a semiconductor in a semiconductor laser when viewed optically by means of a prism. CONSTITUTION:An optical system for optical scanning is so constituted that only the width (d) in the y-axis direction of the cross section of a laser beam is reduced by a prism 3 by utilizing the feasibility of a prism in changing the width in one direction of the cross section of the laser beam by which the cross section of the laser beam out from the prism 3 is shaped to an elliptical shape having a long axis in the x-axis direction and has a short axis (width c) in the y-axis direction. Thus the width of the laser beam radiated from the semiconductor laser that has large spread is reduced by the prism, whereby the loss of light is suppressed effectively and light is utilized effectively. |
