<p>A system for securing first and second parts (20 and 12) together via a spheroid (10), wherein the first part (20) has an aperture (22) slightly smaller than the spheroid (10) while the second part (12) and spheroid (10) each include ultrasonically fusible material. The system comprises means (W) for supporting the two parts (20 and 12) in superposed relation so that the aperture (22) in the first part (20) overlies a portion of the second part (12), means (C) for containing the spheroid (10) among a plurality thereof, and means (R, A) including a concentrating horn (14) for applying ultrasonic energy to the spheroid (10), the horn (14) having a tip (18) provided with a hemispherical depression (16) connected to a source of vacuum (V) for receiving and releasably retaining the spheroid (10). The system also comprises means (R, A) for moving (M) the horn (14) from the containing means (C), to the parts-supporting means (W).</p> |
