A synthetic polymeric support material for chromatographic purposes is obtained from an OH-group-containing polymer and a cross-linker in a heterogeneous phase or by plasma-coating a spherical or bead-shaped matrix body with a monomer containing suitable groups and derivatising the product to give affinity media or ion exchange groups.
