PURPOSE:To enable the setting of a short injection period and facilitate the control of the quantity of injection in a fuel injector in which a fuel pressure intensifier is provided to pressurize fuel to supply it to a fuel injection nozzle. CONSTITUTION:A first control valve 34, which regulates pressurized oil to be delivered to the large-diameter piston chamber 13 of a fuel pressure intensifier 9, is shifted from the closed position to the open position only by displacing the valve against a spring 35. When high control pressure is sharply applied from a first pressure generator 40, the speed of the shifting of the valve 34 is heightened to accelerate the rise in the pressure in the intensifier 9. An optional injection period can be set by turning a plunger 42 to select an appropriate lead 45. A short injection period can be set by selecting the lead 45 and heightening the shifting speed of the first control valve 34. |
