PURPOSE:To prevent a recording head from failing to eject an ink by performing blind ejection of the ink directly onto a part between recording papers of a feeding belt for feeding the papers to an ink jet head part. CONSTITUTION:When a power supply is switched ON, an ink-circulating and recovering operation is conducted, taking into account the possibility that a recording head has been left in a non-recording condition for a long time. With a recording starting signal inputted, a feeding belt 101 is turned, and simultaneously, blind ejection onto the belt 101 is conducted. The blind ejection is finished before a recording paper is fed past the position directly below the recording head, followed by recording on the paper. The surface of the belt 101 to which the blindly ejected ink is adhered is cleaned by a cleaner 120 comprising an ink absorber 119. When a start timer is operated, blind ejection is again conducted. When image recording for set number of sheets is finished, a head- down condition is maintained for a predetermined time of a set time of a start/ remain timer, thereby waiting for the next recording starting signal to be inputted. Thus, it is possible to prevent a failure in ink ejection and to recover from such a failure, without interrupting a recording operation. |
