In the case of a drive battery having a large number of cells (3) which are inserted into a battery container (1) and whose terminals are connected to one another at their top, it is possible to use additional apparatuses without additional installations in that the battery container (1) is sealed by a cover (2), in that the battery container (1) has a greater height than the cells (3) so that a free space (5) is formed underneath the cover (2), and in that additional units of the battery are accommodated in the free space (5), by means of which additional units the operating conditions of the battery can be influenced during the charging process and/or the discharging process. The additional apparatuses are thus accommodated in the battery itself and are possibly supplied from the cells (3) in the battery.
