FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent the disturbance in orientation by covering a ferroelectric liquid crystal panel with a transparent outer frame of a box type and installing plural pieces of buffer materials having elasticity between the ferroelectric liquid crystal panel and the outer frame. CONSTITUTION:Oriented films 6, 7 are provided on the opposed surfaces of glass substrates 1, 2 and the orientation treatment of the ferroelectric liquid crystal is executed. Polarizing plates 10, 11 are respectively disposed on another surfaces of the substrates 1. The cell is coated with the outer frame 12 of the box type consisting of a transparent acrylic resin. Plural pieces of the buffer materials 13 consisting of rubber are installed between the edge of the front surface of the polarizing plate 10 and the outer frame 12 and between the edge of the rear surface of the polarizing plate 11 and the outer frame 12. The impact from the outside is, therefore transmitted first to the buffer materials 13 before the impact is transmitted to the panel. The impact from the outside is thus absorbed by the buffer materials 13. The disturbance in the orientation of the ferroelectric liquid crystal panel is decreased in this way and the uniform orientation is maintained.
