A clamping device (S1) of a bicycle pedal (2) for fastening an engageable article (3) to the pedal, and a bicycle pedal employing this clamping device (ST). The clamping device comprises a clamp member (4) including an engaging hook (5) pivotable toward and away from a forward or rear end of a pedal body for engaging the engageable article (3), and an urging member (10) for urging the hook toward the pedal body. When the engageable article is moved sideways relative to the pedal body (2), the hook (5) pivots away from the pedal body to release the engageable article (3). The clamping device (ST) further comprises an upward pull selector (SE) for selectively allowing the hook (5) to pivot away from the pedal body (2) when the engageable article (3) is pulled upwardly relative to the pedal body (2). This selector (SE) is switchable between a position for prohibiting the engageable article (3) from being pulled upward, thereby avoiding a danger resulting from disengagement of the engageable article from the pedal body (2), and a position for allowing the engageable article (3) to be pulled upward with ease. |
