PURPOSE:To manufacture an electric double layer capacitor having a long life and high breakdown strength by a method wherein carbon as a polarizing electrode is separated from an active carbon fiber cloth by vapor growth while the electric contact is established between fibers using carbon material only. CONSTITUTION:Fine carbon grains 4b can be evenly separated from the gaps between fibers such as a cloth whose surface is rugged when microscopically examined by separating the carbon grains 4b from an active carbon fiber cloth 4a using a vapor growth method. Accordingly, the electric contact can be strengthened due to the interconnection of the fine carbon grains between fibers by depositing the separated layer of the fine carbon grains on the active carbon fiber cloth 4a. Current collectors 5 formed by flame spraying one side of the separated polarizing electrode 4 with aluminum are punched out in phi13; impregnated with an electrolyte; opposed to each other through the intermediary of a separator 6; and then a coin type electric double capacitor is manufactured from metallic cases 7, 8 made of stainless steel, etc., and a packaging material 9. Through these procedures, the current collectivity can be enhanced thereby enabling the electric double layer capacitor having a long life and high breakdown strength to be manufactured. |
