PURPOSE:To improve both the ease of manufacturing and economy without impairing the foaming ability and rapidly foaming properties under neutral or weakly acidic conditions, the touch during and after washing, etc., by using a specified ether carboxylic acid salt as effective component. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol (a) of formula I (wherein R is a 6-25C higher alcohol residue; n is 0 or greater) having a prescribed distribution of the number of ethylene oxide molecules added, obtained by addition reaction of a higher alcohol with a specified amount of ethylene oxide in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, is carboxymethylated with a monohaloacetic acid (salt) (b) in the presence of an alkali (c), thus giving an ether carboxylic acid salt (A) of formula II [wherein M is H, an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, ammonium, a lower alkanolamine cation or a basic amino acid cation] which contains at most 20.0wt.% of those wherein n is 0, 5-35wt.% of those wherein n is 6 or greater, and at most 10.0wt.% component (a). 5-30wt.% component A is mixed, as required, with component (B) comprising 5-50wt.% surface active agent, 0-3wt.% oily base material, 0-10wt.% lower alcohol, and 37-85wt.% water. |
