In order to simplify the electrical installation in a household, the invention provides a current-carrying cable which, in addition to the metallic current conductor, also contains an optical waveguide used for transmission of control information. The switches connected to such a current-carrying cable generate light pulses as control signals, which light pulses are recognised by load control devices via addresses and evaluated. One or more loads can be switched, especially switched on or off, by one or more switches.
