PURPOSE:To separate a polyprenyl compound or its mixture useful as a synthetic raw material of dolichols having extremely important functions for life maintenance, from the extract obtained by extracting the leaves of Himalayan cedar with an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:The leaves of Himalayan cedar are extracted with an organic solvent (e.g. hydrocarbons, ethers, etc.) and the extract is if necessary hydrolyzed, and subjected to the thin-layer chromatography using a 9:1 (vol ratio) mixture of n-hexane and ethyl acetate as the developing solvent. In the above chromatography, the fraction exhibiting the Rf value of 0.18-0.25 and/or 0.50- 0.55 under the condition that the Rf value of solanesyl acetate used as the standard substance becomes 0.40-0.45, is separated and recovered to obtain the titled substance containing the compounds of formula (A is OH or acyloxy; n is integer of 11-19). The substance contains the compounds of formula wherein n is 14, 15 or 16 as essential components, and the sum of the components is >=70wt%. |
