The thickness measurement arrangement contains roller pairs with elastic coatings and low inertia. A second roller pair (B1,B2) for measurement purposes consits of one low inertia roller (B1) with an elastic coating directly driven by a micromotor, pref. a stepper motor, and a low inertia roller (B2) with a non-elastic coating. The distance (i) between a first, elastically coated roller pair (A) and the second pair is smallerr than or equal to the smallest edge length of the measurement object (Br) in the transport direction. The power of the motor driving the elastically coated of the second pair is such as to ensuree constant roller speed irrespective of the thickness of the object. The speed of the object is measured as it passes betweenm the rollers of the second pair. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pref. for measuring thickness of ltters or postcards. Simple arrangement is suitable for rough operating conditions and is flexible in application.
