The automatic unit contains a container (20) with frost protection concentrate (antifreeze). After the insertion of a coin (token), the concentrate is delivered by a pump (21), via a metering device (23), to an outlet (17). Water is delivered from a water conduit (27), via a further metering device (28), to the outlet (17). The metered quantities of concentrate and water correspond to a mixing ratio preselected on the automatic unit or to a frost protection temperature to which freezing is intended to be prevented.
